My take:

In the world of fine dining, hospitality is an art form. But what if we applied this same principle to management? This deep dive expanding on Tuesdayā€™s post explores how viewing management through the lens of hospitality can transform leadership and workplace culture.

A QUICK NOTE: Iā€™m trialing running my course, Management Fundamentals for Tech Leaders, on a Saturday over 4 hours. Same great content, now a bit easier to schedule around. As a result, I made the course 50% off. Learn more and sign up here. We meet on November 9.

THE HOSPITALITY MINDSET

At its core, hospitality is about creating exceptional experiences for others. In restaurants, this means crafting memorable meals and ambiance. In management, it's about cultivating an environment where team members can thrive.

Key principle: Prioritize the experience of others.

Hereā€™s a real-life example. Consider a manager who noticed an individual contributor struggling with team communication. Instead of criticizing or sidelining the IC, the manager took a hospitality-minded approach: they put the IC in charge of leading a project, giving them a platform to improve their communication skills and boost their confidence.

This not only enhanced the IC's experience but also helped them contribute more effectively to the team. By prioritizing the IC's growth experience, the manager turned a potential weakness into an opportunity for development and team improvement.
